Of course, monetary reasons may not be the main reason they're dropping it... the CBC could just be run by idiots.

So I'm rushing to get out the door this morning, worrying as usual about work and bills and life and such. In my rushed state, I notice this older gentleman, walking with a cane, strolling through the little park that is adjacent to my apartment building. I didn't take much notice of him until the 2nd time I came out to my car (because I forgot something in my apartment); he was on the swing set, swinging away with his cane in one hand and a smoke in the other.

Didn't seem like a bad place to be on a morning like today. I wouldn't mind trading places with that guy (maybe except for the limited mobility and smoking parts).

Something new for Fridays

Recently, I decided I needed a new hobby. So after a few weeks of filling out forms, going through training and jumping through hoops (metaphorically not literally), it all came together this morning:

I now have a radio show on CKMS (100.3 FM, the U(W) radio station). Friday mornings 6am to 8am.

This morning was my very first show. Basically, I'm playing whatever I feel like (within CRTC mandated content requirements of course). Relatively uneventful debut. Definitely wasn't glitch free, but hopefully I'll get better over the next few weeks. I thought I'd let you all know because I 1) need listeners and 2) need suggestions on what to play.

Get ready to rumble!

Jays-Rays Saturday telecast

So I'm watching last night's Jays-Rays telecast, and in the 3rd inning, Don Chevrier and Tom McKee visit the Rogers SportsNet booth to reminisce about the 30th anniversary of the Jays' first game. Growing up in the 80's and watching Jays games called by Don, it was so awesome to hear the man at the mike again. And after all these years, Don's looking pretty good and he still has the pipes.

But then came the added bonus: Don calls the top of the 4th! Just a real treat, even if it was only for a half inning.

When softball season ended back in September, I decided I needed to get fitter. Three things I wanted to work on: improve endurance, improve strength, lose weight. One of the things I decided to do was to spin at work. One class a week at first; then in December it became twice a week.

This week, I've gone nuts. In addition to my usual Monday evening and Wednesday lunch sessions, I decided to try the 2 hour Tuesday evening session. Not a typical class/session (with an instructor), just a 2 hour go-at-your-own-pace get together (as it were). I made it through the entire two hours.

So this week, I spun three days in a row for about 4 hours. Crazy eh?

In October, I was 235(ish). Today I'm 224(ish). I'd like to get down to 215 or so by May.

Now some of the joggers/runners at work are trying to convince me to go running when the weather gets nicer. Hmmm... not so sure about that.

Yet.

- First off: another year, another FASS, another awesome time. I'm thinking I may have to upgrade my Elvis getup for next year.

- My parents actually made the drive down to see Saturday's show. Apparently, they love me.

- phronq informed that I missed a classic line during the Super Bowl: Someone (probably Shannon) commented at halftime (I think) about Chicago fumbling the ball:

"KEEP YO' EYES ON YO' LUGGAGE!"

He says it's the "You're bendin' the shaft!" of 2007.

- So I decided to deviate from the norm and actually go to a company party this year (this coming Friday). For those who don't know, I have never attended a company party. Ever. Not once. Never been a company party guy. I have always taken the view that people I work with are people I work with and nothing more. That's just the way I've always felt. (Softball is apparently the exception to this).

Now, never being to one and not knowing what to expect, my expectation is either "great time" or "lousy time". Not sure why I feel like it'll be one of the extremes as opposed to just "good time".

Why am I going? Well, my perspective has changed somewhat in this new year and so I've decided to try something different (sorta like when George from Seinfeld decided to do the opposite of his normal instincts.)

I guess KWLT is next.

We'll see.

Back in July, my grandmother suffered a stroke. On Sunday night, she passed away. Services will be held on the weekend.

So if I seem a little down or preoccupied, now you know why.

So 2006 hasn't been the greatest of years for yours truly (it always seems the even numbered years are crap, while the odd numbered years are not so bad). I had one of those "I just want to be somewhere else" weeks at work (and it was a short week for me too!). Actually, most of December was like that. Just too many things on my mind and/or too many things bothering me.

But Thursday 6pm finally came and hopefully a few days away from everything will help clear my head.

So a Merry Christmas to all... see y'all in a few days.
